Where do 'People You May Know' suggestions come from? People You May Know can help you find friends on Facebook. Facebook features people as 'people you may know' through information on your profile like mutual friends, work or education information, networks, and so on.
An example is if both of you add the same college in your education, then you will both be shown on people you may know on each other's profile. Or maybe if both of you have a large number of mutual friends then Facebook guesses that you people may know each other. And so the recommendation follows. But it is you who controls whether to send a friend request or not. Facebook never sends a friend request on your behalf.

People You May Know suggestions come from things like:
- Having the same friends in common, or mutual friends. This is the most common reason for the suggestions.
- Being in the same Facebook group or being tagged on the same photo.
- Your networks like your school, university or work..
- Contacts you have uploaded.
To add someone as a friend from 'People You May Know', you could send them a friend request.

Facebook constantly updates 'People You May Know' to provide better suggestions. However, sometimes they might get it wrong and recommend someone who you do not know or do not want to add as a friend. Most of the friend suggestions are based on having friends in common. If you see a suggestion for you with no mutual friends, remember that some people have their friends list set to private. This means that some suggestions who are friends of friends may not show the friends that you have in common.
Remove a suggestion
If you see people you do not want to be friends with, click on 'Remove' beside their name. Removing unhelpful suggestions helps Facebook give you better People You May Know suggestions.
N/B: If you do not want to show up in another person's 'People You May Know' suggestions, you can block them. Blocking a user also permanently hides them from your 'People You May Know' suggestions.
